THE LEGENDARY GAMBLER’S BOOK CLUB IN LAS VEGAS Gambler’s Book Club, launched in 1964, also known as Gambler’s Book Shop, is one of the most famous gaming institutions in Las Vegas and the only bookstore of its type in the world. Through the doors of the GBC have passed all the legends of gambling. The ceiling-high shelves of the fabled shop are packed with a wide range of gambling titles that are betting related, informational or historical, actually the greatest physical selection of any store in the world. Books and software on poker, casino games, chess and card and board games—plus a wide range of Mafia titles, biographies, Vegas interest and memorabilia—are among the 3,000 titles in this astounding supermarket of gambling books. After more than 30 years in one location, on May 1, 2010, we moved from Downtown Las Vegas to 5473 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89119, about three miles east of the MGM Grand. Publishers of more than 250 books (the first manual on hold’em poker, written by David Sklansky, came off our presses in 1976), the store has mentored hundreds of budding authors, researchers, documentary film makers and pre-production personnel from Hollywood and television). Ex-mobsters, active and retired FBI agents and law enforcement personnel on an international scale shop with Gambler’s Book Club and some of the most successful book signings took place here with Nick Pileggi (Wise Guys, Casino author); Jimmy Breslin (biographer of Damon Runyon) and thoroughbred handicapper Andy Beyer (The Winning Horseplayer, Beyer on Speed) in attendance. Casino owners Steve Wynn, Jackie Gaughan, Bob Stupak, Carl Icahn and Jack Binion, all have shopped at the GBC. Using traditional methods (mail order, phone orders) as well as the Internet, the store sells books internationally, including to China, Japan, Central and South America, Europe, Australia. Gambler’s Book Club has mailed more than two million catalogs since 1964. The store has a free-wheeling blog to which the entire staff contributes and a podcast that invites famous gamblers, authors and serious players to talk about their successes and offer advice to those who dream of the big win
